The Linggarjati Museum

This is an old Dutch colonial house set on the foothills of Ciremai Mountain. In Indonesian history it is a very important place where the Dutch and Indonesian authorities sign the treaty to give Indonesia back to the Indonesian government while being monitored by British officials in November 1946. This is a pleasant old Dutch villa set in some nice gardens and worth a quick look if your in the area. The buildings are kept in an original colonial style.Throughout the building are many old black and white photographs from the press at the time of negotiations there. If your a colonial history buff this is definitely worth a look but even if your not it's a nice place to stretch your legs if you are on the way to other tourist spots. A donation is expected by visitors put what you feel is enough but please do give as they rely heavily on these donations for the upkeep/staff of the villa.
The “Gedung Naskah”, the actual villa where the Dutch-Indonesian negotiations were held - the place where the text of the agreement was born, will present the history of the immediate circumstances of how the Linggarjati Agreement came into being. It will remain mainly what it is now, being a monument to the spirit of the meaning of the Agreement and to the people who were involved. This building will also house the referral library that will contain books, newspapers, leaflets and booklets about the diplomatic efforts of the decolonization process. Some of the printed material is available for direct handling and study; some of the older and rarer material will be available for viewing on microfilm.
The other parts of the museum, the “Sjahrir House” and a new Multipurpose Hall to be built adjacent to it, will reflect the meaning of Linggarjati for the Indonesian – Dutch relationship. It will present the “who is who” of the two delegations, their staff and supporting personnel. This part of the museum will have a multi functional historical dimension to offer room for changing expositions on other historical themes such as the Indonesian State civic history, the history of Indonesian relations with foreign countries and the local history of Linggarjati. At the recently build Information Center, visitors will be shown an introductory film about the museum and its contents, thus providing a clear overview of the context of the material and themes exhibited.
